Jennifer Hinrichs was born in Glasgow, Scotland, and spent her early years near the Atlantic Ocean, giving her a life-long affinity for sea places. Educated in Toronto, she studied art and design at Central Technical School’s 3 year Diploma of Art program, after which she worked as an art director in both advertising and publishing. During these years, Jennifer continued painting and exhibiting her work, which can now be seen in galleries such as White Wall North, and Studio Vogue in Toronto. For the last 8 years, she has taught drawing and painting to adults at the Avenue Road Arts School, and during the summers leads a landscape painting workshop on Grand Manan Island. This beautiful island in the Bay of Fundy is inspirational for artists. Jennifer and her workshop students have been drawn back to Grand Manan many times to paint this unique landscape. Her own work also incorporates the figure in landscape, sometimes taking as her subject her fellow artists painting on location.
Jennifer has been an artist-in-residence for the Masterworks Foundation in Bermuda in 2004, and also in Montecastello di Vibio, Italy in 2011. She exhibited her paintings at the Florence Biennale in 2009, and her work can be found in private collections internationally.
